The Weeknd’s Starboy is on his way to No. 1. The album, which features Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Lana Del Rey, is on track to sell between 350,000-400,000 equivalent album units (225,000-275,000 traditional) in its first week, according to HITS Daily Double. These numbers would easily put him at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
His last album, 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness, was also impressive, opening with 412,000 units (326,000 in pure album sales).
Starboy has spawned the Daft Punk-assisted title track, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, the album is No. 1 in 80 countries on iTunes. Final numbers won’t be released until Sunday (Dec. 4).
In February, he’s heading for “Starboy: Legend of the Fall” world tour in Europe before coming to North America in April.
